Bernie Sanders said this: I “promise that as president, I will be an arts president. I will continue to advocate strongly for robust funding of the arts in our cities, schools, and public spaces. Art is speech. Art is what life is about.”
In 1981, when he was the mayor of Burlington, Vermont, he worked to create the Burlington Arts Council. He has said, ““At that time, way back when, it was almost unheard of to have a municipally funded and supported effort to promote the arts.” The project was designed to “unleash the creativity of our residents and harness the untold benefits that investments in the arts bring to communities.” He has claimed the Arts Council as “one of my proudest achievements” as mayor. One Facebook page positions itself as “a place for artists of all kinds to share their unlicensed work in order to elevate the grassroots movement for Bernie Sanders,” Artists for Bernie Sanders.
What is unique about Bernie Sanders, as a candidate for president, is that he inspires art and music like no other living politician in our country. Here are some examples of fan art:
Then there is the music:
- BERNIE SANDERS 2016 by Ethan and Eric (this one is the funniest)
- The Bernie Sanders Song by Julia Kate Davis
- Bernie Sanders (Mr. Sandman) by BerningMan
- The Ballad of Bernie by Peebles Production World
- Mr. Sanders Bring Us a Dream (Mr. Sandman Cover) by CrackinFoxy (saving the best for last)
So this is amazing.
The grassroots run deep and wide for this guy Bernie Sanders.
Get to work electing him president!
For the arts!
